Question:

Different domain name & host providers?

I like to leave a domain name registered at GoDaddy, but have another company host the site. If I have GoDaddy redirect/forward to my host provider, how will secondary pages appear in the url? i.e., www.website.com will be at GoDaddy, what will a page called stuff.htm look like? www.website.com/stuff.htm? Or will the secondary pages have whatever domain address I get at the hosting site? (www.newhost.com/stuff.htm?) It might be easier to leave everything at GoDaddy, but other hosts offer more for less money.

  1. As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

One of these services is reachable at: http://bluehost-service.atspace.com . Their service is really great and easy to use. This company offers "Free Site Builder" that helps you build your web pages without difficulty if you are not skilled in using any website creating program. (WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get).

  2. What you do is to provide the nameservers for the hosting to GoDaddy so that the redirect can be set up (usually an option in your account manager).  Once that is set up, it usually starts working in 4-48 hrs.  Once it is working, it will still be as your domain name.

  3. Best thing to do if you are trying to go to a new host is just request to move your domain over to their page. It will look exactly the same way and go daddy will not even see anything anymore they do not host it any longer. Say if you changed to blue host and told them your current domain they will take that domain and move it over. The only thing you have to worry about is backing up your files from the FTP client for safety during the move then after that re upload all your materials to the FTP after they have successfully moved your site's backend to your new host.
