I've been on the tennis varsity for the last 3 years and i have been captain the last year. It's now my senior year and i feel like i don't wan to do it anymore. Point is i don't get taught at the practices or the meets, all we do is hit the ball around. In addition, although i am catain this girl has shoved her way to run the team her own way. and finally, i don't get any enjoyment out of playing in the meets where we have to travel 2 hours generally to get places and play and come back. Usually i end up sepding more time waiting and traveling rather than playing tennis. point is i know it will look good for colleges if i say i am on the tennis varsity team for 4 years. But i know that if i stay its only for that reason.... i am growin gto hate the game because of being on the team.... i don't think its really worth it. I love tennis, and i am good. Idn what to do. Stay in it.... or leave the team and somehow pursue it on my own time?

  1. I'm going to give you a slightly different answer than everyone else.  There are times you will hate things, but you will be glad you stuck with them.  It does stink that you are not getting instruction, so I would go to the coach and say "hey, can you help me work on..."  There are probably other players that feel the same way, and maybe your coach thinks you are having more fun by hitting around in an unstructured practice time.  Since this is your last year, I would say stick it out, and try to enjoy what you can.  You may be surprised that you have a good season.  Take your ipod or a book with you for the long bus trips, and realize that you will get some time away from tennis after the season.

  2. I second the" break" advice but not for long, just miss a day or two..

don't leave now it's gonna be an asset for college... time will finally pass and you won't be having to do it any more, then you'll be glad you didn't quit.. it's not like you'll be stuck there for the rest of your life... save yourself the regret and do whatever it takes for a decent future, even if the tennis thing ends up insignificant you'll know you've done everything you can... people might envy you for being on the tennis team ,not everyone is good enough or talented like you.. dont quit just because you're bored.. good luck  :)

ps: you won't hate the game don't worry.. tennis will stay with you for the rest of your life .

  3. Sounds like you need a break. Take some time off but keep in shape. Then get back into competition

  4. The last thing you need during your senior year is something making you frustrated, depressed, or some other negative thing. I suggest you get off that team ASAP, or else you'll grow to hate your tennis passion, and that's terrible!

I suggest checking out your local youth center (YMCA, for example) to see if they have tennis teams. You'll probably find enjoyment from that.

  5. I would discuss this with a coach, maybe he/she can help you figure out a better situation. However, DO NOT quit. Stick it out, it will be worth it in the long run when the colleges see you were on the varsity team.
