Digital Change?

In 2009, all electronics have to be digital. Does that mean that everyone has to buy BluRay DVD players instead of the normal DVD players?

In 2009, all TVs must have built-in tuners to receiver over-the-air digital broadcasts from local stations.  All "digital" TVs made right now and forever will accept audio/video signals from all of your existing Home Theater equipment.  Even VCRs and Super Nintendos.  

Bottom line, all HDTVs (digital) are backwards compatible, so don't worry about having to upgrade anything (unless you get your TV channels from "rabbit ears").  The Federal Government hasn't required any other equipment (besides TV tuners) to become digital on February 17th, 2009.  Click this link for additional "Analog to Digital Transition" info: http://www.avtruths.com/hdtv.html

And yes, in 5 to 10 years, the Blu-ray Disc will replace the DVD as the Home Theater standard.  When Blu-ray players are $30 at Wal-Mart and Blu-ray movies are $5 in the checkout lanes at grocery stores.  Not too far off.  Remember when DVD players were $500 and VHS ruled the world?

In 2009 all tv, displays need to have a digital tuner digital tv can have a built in tuner but that doesn't mean it have a digital tuner, a digital tuner it need to receive the new digital broadcast mandatory by the government, if you have a tv paying service don't need to worry because that change the signal from digital to analog in case your tv its analog and/or doesn't have a digital tuner for example Dish Network or DirecTV .

In the near future yes Blu-ray will be the only format in many stores or at least the most dominant over the regular dvd's,  like what happen when the DVD came at first, today its rare to find VHS cassettes everywhere in the stores. so blu-ray doesnt have to be at $5 per movie not even regular dvds are at $5.
