is DAB better ?

thinking of buying just a DAM radio wood effect for my kitchen

Perfect for the kitchen.

The quality of the sound is not quite as good as FM (due to the compression used in DAB) but fine for kitchen, and there should be lots of stations.

in time they may get better but the quality is lacking at the moment

It's OK for a kitchen. Lots more stations, lower audio quality.

Like I said, fine for a kitchen.

Fine for small radios and casual listening, lots of choice in some areas.

For more serious 'hi-fi' use the quality (bitrate) is too low at  present.

Plus, the chances of receiving weaker distant stations are much less as digital has a 'cutoff' point unlike analogue.
