  1. Very interesting cakes here is a link to the wikipedia, it seems it is a lot of different dishes cooked in a bamboo basket http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dim_sum

Travellers on the ancient Silk Road needed a place to take a nap, so teahouses were established along the roadside. Rural farmers, exhausted after working hard in the fields, would also go to teahouses for a relaxing afternoon of tea. At first, it was considered inappropriate to combine tea with food, because people believed it would lead to excessive weight gain. People later discovered that tea can aid in digestion, so teahouse owners began adding various snacks and the tradition of dim sum evolved

  2. Small items of food usually steamed or fried, served in round wooden cases.  They bring it out in a trolley and you order from the person pushing the trolley instead of a waiter.

Mainly dumplings, buns but can be anything.  Even chicken feet.

  3. Dim Sum is wonderful. I have NEVER had it with Chicken feet and I have lived in Asia for 10 years.

They are steamed "buns" with different fillings. Shrimp, pork, vegetables,  sometimes they are sweet. Each "dumpling" is bite size so you order a whole range of dishes and every one gets stuck in. Because they are steamed they are very healthy and not at all oily. They also fill you up very quickly.

Dim Sum is very popular in Hong Kong - it is a Cantonese style of cooking. Each region in China and even in Taiwan have a specific  style of cooking.  I wouldn't say that it originated in Hong Kong but they made it what it is today.

If ever you see a Dim Sum restaurant try it. It is worth the experience.

  4. it serves chinese light dishes served alongside Chinese tea (wikipedia).
