Question:

DirecTV Troubles?

'K, I have a recording box for my DirecTV, and I can record things. After it's done recording, I can go to the List thing and look up what I've recorded. Then I click on, say, Survivor: Micronesia, and look at its options. The top one is "PLAY". I click on "PLAY", and nothing happens. If ESPN is on during this ordeal, then when I hit "PLAY", the List menu disappears and I'm watching ESPN again. Anyone know anything about what's wrong or how to fix it? I can't watch any of my recorded shows that I NEED!!! Oh, and if you have a good, clean blonde joke, include that with the DirecTV answer.

  1. if it shows up in your list after you have recorded it but does not play when you tell it to, it sounds like your dvr has gone bad. does it still play stuff you recorded a while ago? sounds like you need to call directv and have them send you out another one

  2. the previous answer is sorta correct.

Try resetting the receiver by unplugging it for a full 15 seconds (count slowly) then plugging it back in. This performs a reboot much like restarting a computer. Try watching the recordings now. If it doesn't work, then continue:

There could be several issues at play, here. The worst case scenario is that the receiver itself is bad. On the other hand, it could just be that it needs some attention.

If that doesn't work, there might be what's called a Known Issue. Basically, it's a common problem that DirecTV has identified and is working to fix. If that's the case, the problem probably originated when your receiver downloaded an upgrade (you won't always know when it does). In this scenario the DirecTV software engineers are working to recode and fix the issue and should be sending out another update soon.

Either way, call DirecTV at 1 800 531 5000 to find out what needs to be done to fix it.

  3. Is the troublesome box HD or not?

DirecTV has been having some transmission errors with the brand series of HD boxes and has consequently caused some problems (like freezing up.)  We had to replace our brand new HD receiver due to their issues.  Call DirecTV and let them do some troubleshooting with you.  They may end up replacing your receiver as well.  Sucks not being able to access your shows, I know!  Hope it's all resolved soon.  Best of luck.
