Disability Insurance in Vermont?

Question

Does anyone know if it's legal in the state of Vermont to employee people without disability insurance? I know it's illegal in New York. I'm out of work due to pregnancy complications for 3 weeks or so and I can't collect disability for this or my maternity leave because they said they don't have disability insurance. I called a lawyer, but haven't heard back from them yet. Just curious if anyone knows the answer to this question.

Short term disability is NOT mandatory in VT like it is in NY & NJ.  Sorry.  If your company is a certain size, they only have to give you UNPAID FMLA for 12 weeks.  You may be able to use your sick days up to pay for some of the 3 weeks.

You are lucky you have paid maternity leave, I don't.

Yes.  Only California and New York require disability coverage.
