  1. Any short story should contain a plot, setting, conflict and conflict resolution. Tell the reader who or what the story is about, where it takes place, when it takes place and create and solve a problem of some kind within it.

  2. I guess you have a topic, right?

Well, format a rough draft covering what you want to say in a concise way. Then save that on your computer. Are you using Word? If so, then go back and ELABORATE, DESCRIBE and BUFF UP your story. This is only the icing on the literary cake, but it can elevate a so-so story to an artistic level if done well.

Good word choices and logical flow of the story are very important.

Most importantly! Write about something you are very interested in, if it's not an assigned topic. Much more fun to write about something you choose to. Either way, good luck!
