Ok so i have 2 receivers in my house one in the living room and one in my room. so my problem is that the receiver in my room is missing a few channels...

Like for example: FSC (Fox Soccer Channel) is not availabe and its highlighted green on my receiver thats in my room. but its available on my other receiver thats in my Living Room.

it also gives me a message saying that its available for upgrade without a phone call.

but im afraid that if i do upgrade i might get charged double every month.

what can i do?

  1. Do the upgrade.  It is most likely a firmware upgrade that the receiver needs to download, which will update its internal tables.  The firmware built into the receiver needs to be updated now and then as the broadcaster changes the assignment of channels within the satellite feed.   In the event you somehow did get charged, you could dispute it, but that won't happen anyhow.

  2. the upgrade that its refering to is a programming upgrade ,they will see thats its already on your account . what you need most likely is a software update, to get it: with the receiver power on, unplug the power cord from the wall for about 5-10 minutes .this is called a "hard reset" and will search for new software after you plug it back in. all receivers on you account will get the same programing EXCEPT for HD content, its hardware specific.turning the power off on the receivers when not in use is the best way to keeep the software updated
