So I have NEVER had a gnat issue...fruit flies ..whatever. Anyway so I have been on a huge cleaning kick for the last several weeks so this frustrates me even more. My kitchen has been spotless. And I have been cleaning with vinegar water as was suggested on here because is ie "eco" friendly . So then I was searching for ways to get rid of them and I see they are attracted to vinegar! So is that what is mostlikely bringing them in. And I will look in the kitchen and not see a single gnat. Then after lunch today I put my kids three bowl in the sink (had used for spaghettios) I then bathed my kids and put them down for naps. So about an hour after I put the bowl in the sink I go in to rinse them and put them in the dishwasher and my sink is like swarming with them. I put the bowls in and now acouple hours later they are gone. Where are they hiding so I can kill them. How have you all gotten rid of them?

  1. Your bugs like to hide down in the drain of your sinks. I've had this problem as well. I used bleach water to scrub down the kitchen and poured straight bleach down the sink. It took about a week of doing this, but it seemed to work. Hope this helps.

  2. What are gnats?

  3. I have the same gnat problem....

you have to just rinse anything that has food or a strong scent to it immediately for now on...and keep the lids closed on everything....

thats my advise besides the obvious....(using gnat bug spray, bug bombs, bleach to clean,etc...)

I think the brandy or sugar water may work to kill them but at the same time,it could also attract them.

  4. This is going to sound soooooooo weird, but it works.  Found out by accident!   I pour a little peach brandy in a glass (about 1/2") and then sit the glass on the counter (so the kids cannot get to it).    You will come back with the gnats stuck in the brandy.   Works each and every time for me.  You could try sugar water........make sure it has LOTS of sugar in it.

  5. Get those sticky traps so the bugs stick to them. They hang from the ceiling I know they don't look attractive but if you catch all the bugs then you can take them down. Good luck =)

  6. Those arent knats they are drain flies.  You need to clean out the drain as far down as you can to the elbow if possible.  The flies are living off the gunk in your drain and then flying out when something comes down the drain to get them lose
