  1. Most prospective employers ask for resume regardless if you've ever worked before.

Even though you may not have retail experience, your resume will contain your education level, if you've done any volunteering, babysitting, dog walking for neighbours, grass cutting (those are called occasional jobs whether you were paid for them or not) even helping at garage sales. You should also include hobbies or interests especially if they pertain to the job you're applying. If for instance you're artistic and you're looking for a job in a retail store which sells arts supplies, paints, art, etc. If you're into fashion then it would be a good idea to include it if applying at clothing stores.

Many students think because they haven't worked before they don't need a resume or they just don't have anything to put in it but that just isn't so. Depending on your age employees don't necessarily expect you to have lots of work experience on your resume.

If they ask for a reference you should ask one of your teachers, clergy, next door neighbour - anyone who knows you and your work ethics well - make sure you ask them before using them.

Just make your resume one page and concise along with a short cover letter (only if it's asked for - usually for larger companies by email or fax) make sure you check it over for spelling errors and that your information is truthful and correct.

It might be helpful if you could get someone older who works in the business world to help you draft one or at the very least look it over. You'll do just fine.

    Good Luck
