Do Pandas have "fangs"?

A friend and I are debating whether pandas are halal (he is Muslim, I am not). Generally speaking, carnivores are not halal, but in nature pandas -- although they have a carnivorous digestive system -- only eat bamboo. Yet there is another rule of halal which states that animals with fangs are automatically not halal. So, thus the question. I know that pandas have enlarged molars, but also some sharp teeth. Would a zoologist or comparative anatomy expert classify these as "fangs"?

no animals that are non-poisonous have fangs. Which are hollow teeth. But if you mean sharp teeth it is still no, which would be canine teeth. Like I said a fang is a poison-injecting hollow tooth.

Your friend probably means canine teeth which pandas have. therefore pandas are not halal. Pandas are not pure herbivores but are omnivores. They eat both plant and animal matter but mostly plant in the form of bamboo. All bears are not halal. Pandas are bears.

Technically speaking, fangs are teeth specifically designed for the injection of venom - they are hollow, with a hole at the tip through which the venom is squirted into the prey, just like a hypodermic needle. Spiders and venomous snakes are examples of animals with fangs.

However, in common usage, the word 'fangs' is often used to describe the large canine teeth of carnivorous mammals such as big cats and wolves. Pandas are a species of bear, belonging to the order Carnivora, and as such do possess these teeth.

Though they feed mainly on bamboo, pandas are somewhat omnivorous and will eat meat when it is easily available, for example in the form of carrion.

I don't pretend to understand all the rules of halal, but it would be my guess that pandas are not halal.
