Do cardinals and crows get along?

I did a search, but this particular question did not seem to be asked yet. During my search, I did find mentions of people living around crows and cardinals, but no specifics on whether they got along.

I live in an urban area, and have water & feeder set up. So far, I've attracted cardinals, chickadees, and mockingbirds. Recently, 2 crows showed up. I don't mind them, but what I really want to keep around are the cardinals. The cardinals seem to get along with the other birds. So far, I have not seen the crows at the feeder at the same time as the cardinals, but I have seen the crows with the chickadees and mockingbirds. I'll feel better if I know that the crows won't chase the cardinals off. I love my cardinals!

  1. Jim's right.  Notice what the crows are eating, and I bet it's not the sunflower seeds that cardinals crave.  I haven't seen many birds ( or other animals, for that manner) that tolerate the presence of crows.  If you want to keep the crows away, don't provide the food they like.

  2. I have a couple crow that like to try raid the bird feeders.  The cardinals just get out of their way.  I have never seen attempted confrontation between the two species.

A bird feeder is a good place to see species interactions.  Some birds wont tolerate others.  The bluejay is a good example.  They'll chase off other birds.  Others get along.  Chickadees and titmouse and indigo bunting all tolerate each other.
