I mean I know that the normal camera's need them but do the digital camera's need them? and if they do, can you erase the data (pictures) with your USB into your computer so that you can store more and you don't have to be buying negatives?

  1. No - negatives are only for film type cameras (eg 35 mm). All digital cameras use electronic storage usually on a flash card. The camera you buy will come with a card but usually only a small capacity one. You will be best buying a larger card giving you the capacity to store hundreds of photos before having to download them onto your computer. Buy the largest memory card you can when you get the camera - they usually have a special price when you buy - but at least 1Gb.

  2. No, that's the greatest thing about digital cameras - we don't need to purchase film anymore and we can just delete our mistakes from the camera right after we snap the picture if we wish..

It's computer memory cards or memory sticks (depending on the camera) now.

Also some cameras (using lithium batteries) can just be recharged (as we do with the cell phones).

You can either plug your camera in to the computer and download and edit and save photos.  No more negatives because you can send it on-line to have selected photos printed and sent to your home.

  3. A negative is the image left on a film strip that shows as dark shadows being light and light being dark. That is why it is called a negative. Digital cameras use memory cards that store images.

  4. To answer your second question:

Sometimes they do but the ones they come with have very little storage space so you'll only be able to take a few pictures.

Therefore you'll definitely want to buy one with lots of storage space - just make sure to ask the salesperson for one that is compatible with your camera.

  5. they use data cards (compact flash, SD cards) instead of negatives. you can download them with a card reader to your computer, and then erase your flashcard and start over!
