Well, like any other food, eggs go rotten eventually.

It used to be, they put a Sell By date on the egg carton, but sleazy companies would take old eggs and put them in new cartons over and over again, so the industry has been cracking down.

Now you sometimes see an expiration date stamped right on the egg. I've seen this with store-brand eggs, not just the fancy brands.
