  1. Gamma rays make different types of crystals glow. This is the basis behind P.E.T. scanners,  in which 511 KeV gamma rays are emitted from your body, and those gamma rays hit some specially made crystals that glow (usually blue).

    Different crystals are used for different wavelengths of gamma rays. They are available commercially, and are mostly made in Russia.
