  1. Yes

If they're cranky and don't wanna be touched they'll bite.  If they're playing too rough they'll bite.  If you're unsteady when you hold them they'll bite to stabilize themselves.  When they're young and testing their beak they'll bite.

  2. I have a macaw as a pet and it never tried to bite when I fed it.

  3. All birds and parrots can and will bite -  if they feel threatened, startled, ornery, or just don't like you.

There are different types of bites;  "warning" bites, which are bites that don't involve any real pressure or blood drawn, many times these are more of a 'peck' than a chomp.

Then there's the P.O.'ed bite that (depending on size of bird and beak) can hurt A LOT, even if no blood is drawn.  And it's not *always* the biggest birds that hurt the most, either.  Of course blood can be drawn, that's always fun too....

Doesn't matter how tame, how sweet, how loving a parrot or even a smaller bird may be... if they are in the mood to bite, they will.  It's very important to learn their body language, understand their moods and back off when they want to be left alone!

  4. Just because a bird is handfed does not mean it is tame.  In some cases, it is not even a sure thing that it has been handled while it was hand fed.  I have seen breeders that have a lot of babies to feed and not many people to help them, feed the babies with a syringe, but never touch them.  And it takes a lot more handling than just  holding them when you are hand feeding them to make them tame.  Holding a bird to feed it will help it get over the fear of the human, but it does not actually tame or train the bird.  And YES, I get bit by hand fed macaws a lot. They have to be taught not to bite.  They do not automatically know this.  Please read my profile.
