  1. When you ask if we think you have a good eye, I'm assuming you're talking about the composition of your photos, and the subjects.  I like that you're playing with the rule of thirds quite a bit, and the off center placement of your subjects does create a "feel" that's interesting.  I agree with the other poster who liked the pic of the fruit on the ground.  Its an interesting angle and interesting placement (its not on the grass under the tree, but on concrete or tar...which adds an element of interest).  What makes this a good shot (to me) is that its a little unexpected, a bit of a surprise...not predictable.  Its easy to photograph flowers on the stem, but take that flower and do something unusual with it, makes for a more interesting photo.  Also, the colors in that photo were complimentary: see the tar and discoloration on the fruit?  Certainly you need to work with your DOF, and perhaps some of the foreground could be eliminated: think of everything in the frame and evaluate if its necessary, distracting, or enhancing.

I also like the pink rhododendron (?) shot as well.  See the pink to the left, and the small greenery to the lower right...the middle foliage looks almost black & white so the other colors stand out. I think thats pretty nice.

I think you need to play with your new SLR some more to get the picture quality and technical aspects down, but I think you already know that.  Have fun with your new camera!

  2. I think you need to check your lens for smears or fingerprints.  Those do not look like dSLR images, even from a novice.  All that glare should be under better control and nothing at all is in sharp focus on any of them.  The simplest cel phone could produce better quality in regards to glare and focus.  You have some interesting ideas, and I liked the notion of the pear shot, but there is a problem somewhere.  Can you show us a photo shot of something more distant, like a building or landscape?  Perhaps one made without using the flash?

BTW, lovely cat.  I have a kitty with similar markings.

  3. i think your pics are really good :) i dont know what an SLR camera is but if you can adjust the focus on it i would play with that, being that the pictures look kind of fuzzy. i really like the one with the mango or what vever it is lol on the ground!
