Question:

Do methodists believe in original sin?

I just curious as I'm thinking of entering the church? I also heard they are known for their logical thinking when it comes to the bible. I hear they also take many stories to be symbolic rather than a literal interpretation. I'm just curious if the above is true.

Thank you for answering.

  1. Yes.

John Wesley said "Original sin standeth not in the following of Adam (as the Pelagians do vainly talk), but it is the corruption of the nature of every man, that naturally is engendered of the offspring of Adam, whereby man is very far gone from original righteousness, and of his own nature inclined to evil, and that continually."

Also, in the link in my source box, is a lengthy sermon on original sin by John Wesley.
