Question:

Do optician’s recommendations affect car insurance?

I went to the opticians for a check up due to work as I work on a computer all day. They recommended that I wear glasses when driving at night. They said I was on the borderline of needing them or not yet I have never had a problem reading signs or anything so I don’t understand why I should need them so don't really want to get some. If I don’t get some glasses will it mean I’m not insured when I’m driving?

  1. If you have been looking for some great ideas, Here is the place you should have a look.http://car-insurance.online-tips.info/ca...

  2. If you have an accident and the insurance company discover this fact,it could affect your cover, failure to disclose the problem would invalidate cover in almost all circumstances. Is the wearing of specs a male ego thing?defensive driving covers every aspect of road travel, play safe, you know it makes sense.

  3. If I was driving on a motorway at 70mph at night I wouldn't want to know I was borderline.

Do the only sensible thing and get of the borderline and be safe.

  4. This is a safety recommendation. You could get another optician to check your eyes but I would buy the cheapest pair of specs that meet the requirements and keep them in the car for after dark use. It's not reading signs &c that is the issue, it's seeing the unlit cyclist in dark clothing that you need to be sure of. Remember your eyes won't improve with passing years. If you have the accident your insurers might well ask if you were/should have been wearing specs and lying to them is bad. Since the eye test was work sponsored it probably is recorded somewhere and just might come on top

  5. Driving with uncorrected defective vision is an offence and there is a potential fine of £1,000 for those caught out. Added to that is the threat of 3 penalty points and possible disqualification for those found breaking the law.

If a driver cannot meet the required standard, they are committing an offence and as a result their insurance may be invalidated.

As already suggested, go with your opticians and get a cheap pair of specs and keep 'em in your car for those occasions where you need them. Apart from anything else it gives a professional air to your driving . . .
