  1. HI.. i'm a meteorology student from  Indonesia..

what you friend said is true..

we dont have summer, winter, fall and spring.. we just only have dry season and wet season..

based by its rain frequencies and pattern.. we divided the regions in to three types:

    1. monsoonal type, where it's rain pattern only has one peak of rain all the year or we usually call it as unimodial (rainy season is about Dec-Jan-Feb)

    2. equatorial type, where it's rain pattern has two peak of rain all the year or we usually call it as bimodial (peak of rainy season is about march and october or when the time of equinox )

    3. local type, where rainfall is strongly affected by the local condition of its place, such as topography, position to the sea, etc.

    hope this help.

  2. Yes, this is true.

Even though, as long as you are away from the Equator, you can define the seasons, they only make sense if you are at a latitude high enough. Typically, I would say you need to be out of the tropics (latidude higher than 23 or so), to be able to properly define the seasons.

In the intertropical region, like the Indonesian islands, all you have is the motion of the Intertropical Convergence zone, which determines wet and dry seasons.
