  1. I'm not sure, but I do believe that the Olympics where created to do just the opposite. They were meant to encourage countries to put their differences aside and come together to compete and showcase the best athletes in the world.

It's like a family reunion of the human species... we may not all get along all of the time, but for one month every four years, we can come together and get along.

  2. no not really cuz the olympics is a not profiting organisation

  3. I think it does unfortunately.  The Olympics used to be about sportsmanship, and celebrating the success of amazing amateur athletes regardless of their nationality.  Whilst there was always some friendly competition between the nations, this was outweighed by the achievements of individuals, not nations as a whole.

Nowadays professional sportspeople are the norm - it's only the smaller, obscure, recreational types of sport where you can watch amateurs (like table tennis, canoeing etc).  Wealthier countries inject way too much funding into training, recruit great athletes from poorer countries and even cheat to win.

There is no longer any grace in losing, if your team does it's because the judges are biased, or the other athletes are on drugs or because the competition was rigged - not because the other team happened to perform better on the day.

There are hardly any displays of good sportsmanship anymore - look at the basketball between the USA and Australia earlier tonight - even though the US was up by 30 points in the last few minutes of the game they went out tough, causing fouls, knocking the Aussie's over - did I once see a member of their team extend their hand and help the other up?  Nope!

What was once great about the Olympics, has disappeared - it has become a political forum, and a display of a countries wealth (trying to outdo each other in spiffy uniforms, expensive facilities and athletes who are given million dollar bonuses for doing something which used to be for the glory alone.

  4. I don't think so. People who enjoy sport can appreciate athletes trying their best to win regardless of their nationality.
