Question:

Do the police undermine society?

I just heard that the UK police recommend that if a driver is a victim of car-jacking they should not do anything to provoke the car-jacker, they should just hand over their keys and get out.

  1. That's about right.

You can't enjoy life as a dead hero!

  2. Why on earth does this undermine society?

This is common sense crime prevention advice to prevent the risk of serious harm and your question is a fine example of the Police not being able to do right for doing wrong.

If your car is more valuable than your life then good luck to you.  Mine is insured.

  3. how is that undermining society?

If they said that you should never give up your car and fight back then there would be an uproar, especially if someone died as a result of doing so.

As a police officer I would recommend keeping your doors locked whilst in the car and don't have valuables on display, I hope that wasn't me undermining society, pass me the phonebook I'm ringing the Samaritans.

  4. I disagree with the rest here! Sorry. Yes if I were in that kind of danger I would run.

If I saw some little punk scratching my car, I would go out and shoo them off. Call the police and you get nothing, call your insurance and your priemims go up, why the h**l should I pay for someone else taking or damaging my gear!!

Next they'll be telling us to pack our gear in pritty packages and hand them over as presents. I worked hard for what I have and I'll be da***ed if I'm going to let some sh*t have it.

Can't always cover the things you own and replace them. The police need to stop sending Community public police (average joe with a pretend uniform) to the crimes and start dishing out real punishment like the old days.

The government broke down faily values and told us all to work and move to different places to find jobs. Families and communities that once worked together now only look out for number one.

All I can say is its a sorry sight and I won't be bringing any kids into this world. Why should I bring up my child with values when no one else can be bothered or has the time or money.

    Rant over!

  5. To be honest, if someone car jacked me I would hand the key to my car over.  It's insured and I don't want to lose my life over a car.

  6. they also advise if you are mugged at knife point not to struggle.

    its called putting safety first.

cars, handbags..... material goods that are covered by insurance and can be replaced. human life is worth more

  7. It seems to me that society undermines the police in most cases.

  8. Well, as with police in the U.S., they are probably just repeating what some higher ups tell them to say -- police do little real thinking themselves & thus can't really be blamed here.  For all the people above who think it is always good to follow the orders of criminals:  consider that by letting them get away -- you are just leaving them free to victimize someoene else in the future.  In short, becasue of our collective cowardice as demonstrated above,  criminals have become incresingly emoboldend in the U.K. and other places that don't believe in resistance.

  9. Thats common sense if you got insurance take the car i can replace that. But Police does other things to undermine universal common law. When our right's are violated under lies of terrorism and other things. They use the mass media to spark fear, so they can get the consent from the people to implement laws this will take their rights. When one person or people right's are violated all people are violated. Soon or later it will effect us all.

  10. Sounds like a good plan to me.

  11. That sounds like sound advice to me, material things are not worth a life.

  12. Sounds like the Criminals have already done it. The main interest of the Police is to give advice that will keep people safe.

  13. They say that because they have the victims safety as their #1 priority. No one should ever risk their life for a material possession.

Police don't under mind society, idiots like you just make society look bad.

  14. The police will recommend that if your car, shop, house, person etc is being robbed, the best thing to do is give them what they want. Your life is never worth losing over material possessions. And it is a real risk that you will be injured or worse if you try to stop them.

  15. And who would argue with that?only the idiots who want to be have-a-go heroes and the gutter headline frenzied press will say differently, personally Id sooner be a live coward than a dead hero, esp over something material like a car!

  16. thats not really undermining society.

It would be much worse if the police advised we all refuse to give up are cars and fight car-jackers, then someone would get shot and blame the police.

  17. yep

safety first sounds good to me
