Do you know anything about Methadone?

Question

I have researched Methadone on the internet but does not answer all my questions? Does anyone know if you can

take this drug occasionally? The person I believe is addicted was taking this drug for pain? He says he takes occasionally but I am worried that is not the truth and that he may need help. What should I do?

Methadone is used for patient's who are addicted to other drugs, they may be prescription or illegal.  It is not used occasionally, even in a hospital setting for pain relief, it is administered on a regular basis.  If your friend is taking Methadone, than there are two possibilities here.

Either they have a strong addiction to other drugs and are taking this under physician and healthcare observation or they are taking it under the table.  The second would be worrisome enough for me to let someone know.  Phone his parents and inform them if you can, if not a close sibiling may be sufficient.

Yes, it could be taken occasionally although the effects for pain are said to wear off within 8hrs. It stays in the system for 3-7 days in the urine and has a half life of 15-60 hrs. This makes it possible to take it less than directed. If you believe the person is addicted the only thing you can do is talk to him or report him to his doctor. However, if he is using it for pain, prescribed by a doc and not abusing it you will have hurt him tremendously if you report him.

WELL METHODONE YOU HAVE TO GET EVERYDAY AND THEY USUALLY MAKE YOU GO TO GROUPS AND YOU WILL HAVE A COUNCELOR.AFTER YOU HAVE A CLEAN URINE FOR A WHILE THEY WILL GIVE YOU TAKE HOMES LIKE ON HOLIDAYS THEN WHEN YOU GO THERE FOR A WHILE THEY WILL GIVE YOU MORE TAKE HOMES ON THE WEEKENDS.ONCE YOU THINK YOUR O.K THEY WILL SLOWLY DETOX YOU TILL YOUR COMPLETELY OFF...GOOD LUCK

The thing about methadone is that everyone assumes it is only used for junkies trying to kick their habit.  That is not the case.  Methadone is used for heroin addiction but it is also used for pain management.  It can be given to someone who suffers from chronic pain even if they have never been addicted to any other substance.

Methadone is a hard drug.  It is highly addictive and it has severe withdrawal symptoms.  The withdrawals from methadone last longer than the withdrawals from heroin.

Methadone CANNOT be used occasionally as it has to be built up in a persons system in order to work.  It takes approximately 3-7 days for the drug to build up to a therapeutic range in a persons body.

they give it to junkies to try and get them off heroin!  its like giving cough syrup to an alcoholic, it's a heavy drug but not as addictive as heroin, as cough syrup is to alcohol, if you lived in Oakland CA. you would know the methadone shuffle when you seen it, bad bad news! dont mess with it unless your a junkie that wants to quit, if not mess with it and become a full blown junkie!

your friend obviously doesnt want you to know about his obsession. tell his parents before it gets to bad. that way he can get help. it may seem stupid and nerdy now but he will thank you one day. and his parents will thank you now and they will be gratefull you were there for him. you are his gaurdian angel. wachting out for him at good times and bad.
