You can't lose by someone else mentioning it... the rules say that if someone else mentions it you have 5 minutes to forget... so the only person who has lost is you!

As I understand it, there are three rules:

1) To be aware of The Game is to play The Game

2) To remember to be playing The Game is to lose The Game

3) Losing has to be publically announced

And then varying additions about how much time people have to forget. But so you can lose by somebody else mentioning it - because it reminds you that you are playing it.
