Intercalation is the insertion of a leap day, week or month into some calendar years to make the calendar follow the seasons or moon phases.

like the aztecs had the most accurate calendar to the actual earth rotation and moon phases, and it had 13 shorter months... i dont know what that has to do with anything though haha.
