Do you let your kids?

Question

When swimming in chlorinated pools do you let your kids open their eyes underwater without goggles? I know I did as a kid but they always burned and hurt. My kids have goggles and now my oldest wants to swim with her eyes open without her goggles. Is it really bad for your eyes to not wear goggles under water, in a chlorinated pool?

it's not going to kill her, but they do become red and irritated. i would enforce the goggles.

It's fine. You did it as a kid and you're not blinded, are you?

We open our eyes in chlorinated water and we're fine.  I wouldn't worry about it.

My kids swim without goggles all the time, its really not that big of a deal. They never complain about their eyes hurting.

It's fine.  If it burns too much, their eyes are too sensitive and they should put the goggles back on.

I used to open my eyes all the time without goggles.  20+ years later I have poor vision.  Maybe that's why, but I'm sure it's because I look at a computer all day.  Let her do it.  She'll determine it herself if her eyes hurt and/or burn.

If theres too much chlorine then it will sting, but no permanent damage

as a young swimmer i did it all the time

and yes my eyes hurt

but it just made me want to open them more

during swim practice i wore goggles

but when i was just swimming for fun i never did

I think you should her go. If you tell her.. and she still refuses.. then you should just let her learn on her own. (:

you dont even need to wear goggles sometimes they hurt your head if they are too tight

It depends how much chlorine is in the pool.  Public pools use a LOT more than backyard pools.
