  1. Yes.

I say this, as my wedding & all the weddings I have been to have them, it is quite normal.

Though it is up to you, if you are having a small informal family dinner, perhaps a simple typed up menu you can do yourself (to save cost & tailor make it).

Remember, even though the meals come out in alternating pattern (Beef, Chicken, Beef, Chicken ...), always get an indication of who will eat what if you can (you may find 70% want beef), also for any special requests, especially vegetarian may pop up.

The use of a menu card will also inform the guests of what to expect (this can be good, especially if a very simple wedding with less than 5 courses), people like to know if they are getting dessert or is it just the wedding cake, and is their any tea & coffee?? wines ..etc..

Remember, your wedding is a reflection of you, it is a statement of who you are, if you expect to have & want menu cards... well have them, they need not be expensive, yet make perfect sense.

    Good Luck.

  2. It might be a good idea to have a menu card for a family style dinner.  In my experience, people are often left question exactly what is being served.  For example, you say chicken and steak.  But, are they marinated in anything in particular, are the seasoned a certain way, have a particular sauce as flavoring, etc.   With a menu card, you can say, " Steak with a Balsamic Glaze " or "Chicken with a Lemon Pepper Marinade"

That way, guests know what they are eating.  You can do menu cards yourself for relatively cheap.

  3. no

what we did was have food from his culture, food from my culture then "weenie" food...as we called it LOL...which was just sandwich stuff...we did a buffet style so people could pick and choose.  didn't have menu cards, and the caterers were right there so if someone had questions they could ask

  4. Meal options are usually for served meals where you need to have the meals reported to the caterer so that they just make enough for the individual servings.

By family style, do you mean that there will be large servings of food placed on each table for the table to share? If it is, I would guess that people will be choosing at the table and if you put two meats down some people may take both. Talk to your caterer about it They may be making it like a buffet, assuming that people will decide when they get there. If they ask for meal choices, then you need the meal cards, having

  5. i asked this the other day and found most people have never seen them at any weddings they've gone to. So the answer is 'no'  For me, I am also having everyone's choices given to me with the rsvp so no need for a menu.  I don't think you need one too.  Save the money for your honeymoon;) lol

  6. Waste of money.

  7. No, they aren't necessary.  They are usually only used for a plated dinner.

  8. you don't have to if you are serving just one type of food! if you are serving more than one just tell your guesses what you are going to be serving that day! it will be cheaper if you do it without menu cars! good luck and congrats 4 your wedding

  9. They're not necessary.  If you want them though, maybe instead of individual cards make a 5x7 print out for each table and put them in pretty frames.

  10. No

  11. I think family style is great.

There's really no need to go through the extra hassle or expense of menu cards unless the guests are going to have to choose their dish.

  12. It is not necessary
