  1. yes.... hes getting worse.

    AND GO NADAL!!!!!

  2. Having just narrowly lost what people are calling the best final ever and being world number one must be really tough, eh? For goodness sake, the man's 26! He reached the finals at French, Wimbly and the semis at AO, where he lost to the eventual champion. But any other player's standards, he's having a great year! People just expect so much of Federer, they think when he doesn't win everything he should retire. So in a word, No.

  3. he can reboost himself in the us open..

i wouldn't say his career is totally over

but he will never be the same as he was b4

  4. no

  5. h**l yeah...

so that he'll quit all the reasonings he has for every loss...

  6. Should Federer be associated with Borg? No.

If he retired this year he would be and that would be absolutely horrible.

No Tennis Great wants to be associated with a flasher like Borg who personality wise is an arrogant ****.

Federer may retire in 2010, but he's stated last year he plans to retire in 2012.

  7. h**l No!!.....im a HUGE Nadal fan, but not having federer will take away the "famous rivalry" and tennis would be boring. Wimbledon 2008 was amazing and that kind of tennis should be kept alive. Just Imagine if every Grand Slam was like that.

  8. No because he's still number 1 and still has his competitive drive. And let's face it, without Federer, we'd have only Nadal with an occasional challenge from Djokovic. How boring would that be. The Federer/Nadal rivalry is good for tennis.

  9. im a nadal fan and my opinion is that federer shouldn't retire. in my opinion, nadal will be number 1 by the end of the year and federer will be 2 and slipping, but he still has a lot left in him. i thought he was really strong at wimbledon and played a good match against rafa. if he continues this good play, he will continue to reach finals and though i don't think roger can beat nadal, but who knows, what if these knee problems or an upset keeps nadal from reaching a grand slam final? if so, you would have to say federer would be the favorite into the final. he can still win some tournaments and isn't so old that he should retire just yet. he still has a couple of chances to win that final slam title in the french and i think he might be able too even though it is unlikely as long as nadal is around.  we'll see, i say he goes 2 more years. either way, he'll go down as one of the great tennis players of all time right up there with sampras and borg and other tennis greats. i think he can add a couple more to that trophy pile dont you?

  10. heck no not right now maybe when hes 35

  11. Federer? Yes. Just not until he's ready.

  12. It all depends on what Federer wants to accomplish and what he is content to settle for.

He is definitely the second best player in the world right now. Forget ranking. Nadal, winner of the French and Wimbledon and owner of a 12-6 head to head against him, is now unofficially the best player in the world.

The question is whether Federer is content being second best. Would a guy who won 12 grandslams and held the number one spot for nearly 300 weeks be content reaching semis and losing in the finals of grandslams. Those are great achievements for anyone else, but ordinary achievements for Federer. Is he happy with that. If he is, then no problem, he can keep on playing until he Jimmy Connor's age.

But I'm thinking that Federer won't be happy with his current state of affairs. He wants to dominate once again. So it's either he picks up himself and get his act back together, or hang up the towel. I just don't see him settling for second best.

  13. Anyone could have won the match between Federer and Nadal. If Federer had won, would you be asking the same question??

Federer lost earlyish in the Australian Open because he had something similar to Glandular Fever.. he still has many tournaments to win.. (including the Olympics and the US Open this year).

Federer should retire when he feels ready, but me and a lot of his other fans would be devestated and everyone knows it would be a great loss for the tennis world!!

I have heard him say though that he still has many years left in him and that he would love to play until he's atleast 30 =]

    He's 26.. still young and still number 1 !!

  14. That's a really absurd question. Did you miss the phenomenal tennis he was playing at Wimbledon?

  15. LOL. This is the most hilarious and dare I say the dumbest & stupidest question I have come across in a while.

Although I am a huge Rafa fan, I dont think Federer should retire. I mean cmon, the guy just reached 2 grandslam finals in a row. How many current players can claim that? Federer along with Rafa is still head and shoulders above the rest of the field. He is only 26. He can easily play for another 4-5 years and I do believe he will win more grandslams.

  16. Why would he? Let's see, got to the semifinal of Australia and the finals of the French and Wimbledon. If anything, I would think the last loss would fire him up for the U.S. Open.

He will be only 27 on August 8. For men, that is still young. He has not lost his passion as evidenced by Wimbledon! When he does lose his passion, then and only then, should he retire.

Ryuzaki, he is not getting worse. The others are simply getting better. It is the nature of the game.

  17. not yet..

  18. What for?  Because he narrowly lost to the second-ranked player in what was one of the best Wimbledon finals ever?

First of all, you don't quit when you lose.  You use the loss to fire you up to work harder, do better. If you're an old man in a young man's game and just can't keep up, then it isn't just quitting, retirement is a wise and honorable choice.  But the man's 26 years old.  There are many tournaments and many, many millions of dollars in earnings in Federers future.
