  1. it sortof is like meat because it's from a fish your eating its guts but most vegitarians dont consider it meat

  2. seems pretty meaty to me

    go eat a tree

  3. Of course it's the same as meat. What makes it different from any other meat??? I don't even understand how ppl could differentiate it from other meats. I agree with the poster above, meat comes from a dead animal, a fish you are eating is a dead animal.

  4. What I think is not important. It is important only to those who eat it cos I don't care a whit if they are vegetarain or not and I don't care what other people meat unless they order it from my restaurant..

  5. Meat is the flesh of a dead animal.  Fish are animals.

    You are not a vegetarian.

The "best answer" to the question you posted is a crappy answer.  Vegetarians do not eat animals and never have.  The people who coined the word vegetarian are the ones who get to define it.  Nobody else gets to change that because they feel like it.  Here is the definition of the word, directly from the source: http://www.vegsoc.org/info/definitions.h...

  6. fish is meat

  7. I've always wondered that too =| when I asked my friend she was like, fish is fish. I didn't really get that, but I think fish is meat 'cos it has eyes and it's ALIVE

  8. Some people will say yes.  Others will say no.  Here's a biblical ruling that may help you find your answer.  Whether or not people will take the thousands of years of observance at face value is obviously up for discussion.

In the Jewish laws of Kosher, milk and meat eaten together is prohibited.  The ruling states that thou shall not eat a goat in its mother's milk (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashrut ).  By this, Jewish law says that you cannot have milk and meat together (cheeseburgers, etc).

On the other hand, though, fish is perfectly acceptable.  It's not a mammal (= meat).  Granted, fish is a living being, but so are plants.

It is perfectly acceptable in Jewish religion to eat fish and cheese together.  But it is not permissible to do so with meat.

That said, most people who eat fish consider themselves vegetarians.  They're not, however, vegans (but I think you knew that!).

And fish isn't considered an animal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal

Fish is just that: fish.  Animals are mammals.

Edit: I think your additional details (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;... ) answer the question!

  9. Fish is meat, but don't let that stop you. You have to draw your own boundaries for what is and is not acceptable.

  10. well it came from an animal, so i consider it meat :-)

    lol @ swimming vegetable

  11. Uh, yes.  Fish is meat.  How can you logically say it's not meat?  It's a dead animal!

  12. Fish feel pain just as much as we do, so i consider them meat.

  13. No, you're not a vegetarian.

    Vegetarians do not eat animals.

    Fish are animals.

If you eat any animals, you aren't vegetarian.

Why does it matter if that answer was chosen as best?

It just means that it's what the asker wanted to hear.

  14. I think it is because it comes from a once living creature with muscle and brain that was able to be ambulatory.

  15. To me, fish is just fish

  16. Of course fish is meat. It has muscles and bones, doesn't it? People who don't think that fish would qualify as meat probably failed 5th grade biology...

  17. Fish is definitely meat, and veggies eat no animal of ANY kind, nor any products with meat or animals parts in.

    You are a pescatarian,not a vegetarian.

  18. yes

  19. fish is definitely an animal.

YOU ARE NOT A VEGETARIAN IF YOU EAT FISH.

    it makes you a pescetarian.

    :]

  20. You are not vegetarian if you eat fish.  Vegetarians do not eat animals.  Flesh of an animal is meat.  This is according to the Vegetarian Society that was founded in the 1800's.  The meaning has not changed.

Best answer chosen by an asker does not mean it's the right answer.

  21. Meat = muscle

    Fish = muscle and cartilage.

  22. It's a meat. I find it funny that certain religious groups have a 'meatless friday' when fish is a meat..

  23. I don't eat pig, cow, chicken, goat, lamb, etc.

    I also don't eat fish.

Fish are living beings and are therefore "meat" in my book at least.

Edit:  The link you added is why I don't refer to things as meat, poultry, beef, pork, etc.  I refer to it by the name of the animal.  Poultry comes from birds, fish comes from fish, and "beef" comes from cows.  I don't want to think of something merely in terms of food--like many meat eaters do--I think it's because they have a guilty conscience.  They don't want to think of venison as a deer.  They don't want to think of beef as a cow.  It helps them to think of it only as the final  "product" so they can justify eating a rotting corpse.

  24. it sort of is, but is still an animal so, you really shouldent eat fish if your a vegitarian.

  25. The word "Vegetarian" was invented in 1847 to pertain to people who don't eat animals.

Fish are animals and I don't eat animals. That is my belief and I'm sticking to it.

I don't care if some people make a rationalization about fish and I don't care if somebody says "fish isn't meat" and got best answer.

If you call yourself "vegetarian" and eat fish it does not mean I have to accept you as a vegetarian. Nor does it mean I have to eat fish.

  26. well technically you're not a vegetarian, you're a pecestarian. that's when you eat fish. i don't see how fish isn't meat? what do you think it is? a swimming vegetable? haha

  27. Well, that "best answers" just goes to show how worthless this forum can be.

when judging if a "best answer" has any validity you need to be careful. The answerer, dispite being active in this forum for over 2 years, has never answered another vegetarian question

Does that tell you anything about thier knowledge or experience on the topic ?

You should read the links to the main vegetarian organisations as pointed to in my "profile".

If you want to pretend fish is not meat, thats entirely up to you and there is nothing any of the rest of us can do about it.

But, to be honest, it doesn't matter how often you say it, it will still not be true.

Vegetarians do not eat fish, it really is that simple

  28. To me:

    Meat = animal flesh

    Beef,pork,chicken etc. = animal flesh

    Fish = animal flesh

Fish are animals that feel pain. Fish are just fish. Cows are just cows. It is ALL disgusting animal flesh i.e. meat

  29. No **** Sherlock! Fish is MEAT! JEZZZZ!

  30. Fish is a creature of muscle and cartilage

It doesn't grow from the ground!  Fish is a Meat! Anyone that thinks fish not to be meat  is stupid!  Just compare it to other meats.  And compare it to fruits and vegetables.   If fish wasn't meat why doesn't it come from the ground?  Vegetables and fruit grow from seeds planted in the ground!

You can't plant a fish in the ground and expect it to grow!
