Question:

Dodge Neon 2004 SXT Sputtering Problems?

I have a 2004 Dodge Neon SXT and I have started to have problems when I stop. The engine will sputter and jerk the car a bit, if I hit the gas I'm usually ok, if I put the car in park, I'm just fine. The problem only seems to occur if I am driving along and have to slow down for some reason like a traffic jam or stop light. No service lights are on. The car is due for an oil change but it is just now due. Also, I have noticed that when I fuel up at the pump the automatic "click" you hear when the fuel tank is suppose to be full is "clicking" before the tank is full. I can put in more gas and that does raise the gauge, I'm just wondering if it is all connected?

  1. you could try changing the gas filter, it could be partly clogged.

  2. I DON'T NO!!!!

    GOOG LUCK =(

  3. maybe your timing is bad or idler need to check on that maybe you jus need a new filter have your oil change ask to check your filter?about the gas you need to see how much gallons your car wholes so you dont go over

  4. I had a similiar problem with the same car. My car had problems at traffic lights and anytime I slowed down where it would stall or sputter if i hit the gas to quick. The only difference is my check engine light would come on sometimes. I took it to AutoZone and asked them to pull a code for me (free) and they told me my camshaft sensor was messed up (i was told that's a common problem with 04 neons). I took it to a automechanic and they fixed it for me- the part was cheap-about $20- but they'll get u on the labor! I also used fuel injector fluid and filled the tank with the more expensive gas to kinda clear out it out, cause i think puttin the cheap gas in it was part of the problem too.

So to start off I would just try to take it to use some fuel injector fluid (i jus got mine at 711) and used up most of ur gas and fill it up with the more expensive gas and wait a few days and see if that works. If not try to find a place where they'll pull a code for you cause that's usually free. Other than that, you might just have to got to the the shop but I know that get's expensive :(
