Does American laptops work in Australia?

I am moving to Australia in a cuple weeks and need to know if my laptop will work over there! Should I buy a new one?

I can tell you about Lenovo and HP. They work in any wattage 120, 220 or 240 (Our continent is 120) that means you won't fry the notebook/laptop computer when you you plug into the power outlet. You only need to buy the plug converter (they have strange power outlet connections there) and another thing here at home or in Australia, China or wherever you plug the notebook/laptop computer I recommended you to use a power surge protector (portable one =It's like a little adapter the size of your fist) check ebay or circuitcity.
