Question:

Does Anyone Sleep With A Pacifier

I use to suck my thumb a lot as a kid.

Then when I was about 14 I got a pacifier.

I hid it from my parents, but I used it every night to help me fall asleep.

Then my mother caught me sleeping with it one night.

After some teasing, my folks said if that's the worst thing you can do, we're pretty lucky.

So I've been using one at bedtime ever since.

It's just soothing and I sleep a lot better.

I was wondering if I'm alone on this one?

  1. um...no.

  2. You would be wise to consider finding other means by which to soothe yourself.

This could easily become a social issue you don't want to deal with. Teens are not generally kind when it comes to this sort of behavior. In other words, it's not something you would want to share with friends (these things have a way of "just slipping out").

Remember: you can't unring a bell (once it's out - it's out, and you'll have a mighty hard time living it down).

Consider weaning yourself from the pacifier. For example, if you are currently using it 10 minutes/ night, cut it down slowly (minute by minute if necessary) until you are down to zero minutes.

The bottom line here, is that you do not want this to become a lifelong habit (e.g., using a pacifier on your wedding night), and at age 14, you're getting precariously close to that happening. 14 years is a long time to build a habit, so it may take awhile for you to break yourself of it.

    Best of luck,

  3. you're way too old for a Pacifier

  4. No, Ziggy, but if it will help me sleep, I'm willing to try one!  I never sucked my thumb when I was a kid, so I guess it'll be okay :)

God love ya, thanks for asking this question.  It has not only made me smile, it has given me hope for insomnia.

  5. haha, thats different but it doesnt matter...whatever works for you

  6. Well, it's bad since it reduces your intake of oxygen.

  7. i did when i was like 4 but i stoped through fear of being teased. but hey what ever works you could try sleep aids.

  8. I had a client who used one.  He came to see me for hypnotherapy because he wanted to stop using it.  He felt that it was something that he didn't want to be reliant on any more.

  9. my daughter gave hers up at 18 months old....

i'm sure you're not alone, but it's not really normal.  hehehe
