  1. People like to watch sports players on television.  The television companies make a lot of money selling advertising around the shows.  The sports players get a percentage of that money.

  2. cause they're celebrities

and i agree that firemen and police deserve more.  =]

    answer mine too please...

  3. Policemen and firemen are paid by our tax dollars. Although we would love to pay these men a lot more money, in most case it just isn't practical. We simply can not afford to.  Professional sports are businesses. The players are paid in accordance with the huge sums of money made by the franchises.

  4. Combined my parents make 36 million + a year, but it's just the way things are, but I think they (policemen and firefighters) should make more.

  5. probably because just about anyone could become a firefighter, but it isn't everyone that can become a Koby Bryant, or Tiger Woods, etc...

    Just the way with society.

Kind of like, on the news, you pretty much only hear about the bad things that happen...I think they call it sensationalism.

  6. It's because the firefighters and policemen are paid from our tax money, while the pro sports players are paid from fans and advertisements. A lot of people will pay a whole lot of money just to watch the NFL play up close, but how many ever tip a policeman for saving their lives?

  7. well Football players have a franchise .

They are in a way like celebrities

  8. Cause we value entertaiment more than a good cause.

my wifes a nurse and does a job i doubt to many movie

stars or sport jocks would wanna do and yet gets paid

no where near what they do, guess who takes care of

them if they get injured and need hospitalzation? . . .

  9. because we put sportsmen on a higher-than-mighty pedestal and pay the ridiculous admission prices charged to go and watch them "play". They also have companies adding sponsorship money, but you'll never see a fire truck with company logos plastered all over them. It's just the way it is. If we did'nt "idolize" them, they would'nt get the big bucks
