Does anyone hate Australia?

Question

I am almost obssessed with Australia. I go there every other year and love it to death. I am not able to live there, if I could I would go right now. I feel real pain because I am not there permanantly and really need to get over this so I suppose I am asking genuin people in the know to tell me any negatives about Oz. I'm not some sad idiot, I am really serious and long and long to live there but could never get a visa because of not qualifying....and yes I have tried. Is it different living there than just visiting as many have told me?

Amusing..there are SO many Aussie haters. To all those illiterate Americans and British out there with YOUR racist and ignorant masses(including yourselves). Please do remain at a distance! I've seen your respective lands  and  appreciated the good points whilst disliking the bad.

Australia is paradise.. i use to live there and went there in 2005 for christmas .. stayed for 6 weeks in perth... absolutely amazing.... im going back there when i finish uni... going for good :):).... o yer the only downside i can think of is the flies.. especially if yu have ever been to rotness island and the heat if you have to work.. but even then everywhere is A/C .... AUSTRALIA is the best i agree with you :D

Think of it this way if you moved here after settling into the humdrum of everyday life the holiday would be over. At least you are fortunate enough to visit every year and enjoy a place you love. Cheer up and wherever you are make the most of it. .

I feel exactly the same way about Australia as you do, I have been twice and absolutely love the place, my hubby and I can't get visas because of our age but would go live there tomorrow if we could, I pray for a lottery win every week in the hope that will give us the money to be able to live there permanently, I can't imagine anyone not liking Australia ever.

I'm sure Australia is lovely, however, the people I find sooo boring. They are obsessed with telling everyone they, their country and anything in it are the best. They are highlyinsecure about their place in the world, and also seem to be obsessed with bitching about the Poms (British).

hi! I've  just visited Australia and love it to bits. It's really a super  lovely place and I kinda got hooked to Australia. I can't stop thinking about it ever since I got back, like you, I thought of migrating there but everyone says its so difficult....



I think the reason why it is harder to get a PR there is precisely because it is so popular with everyone. It's almost like a paradise I must say. So there is nothing to hate about Australia, I have asked so many who studied there, lived there, worked there. It seems so hard for people to come up with a list of what they hate about Australia, most people just cannot think of any!  On the contrary, people just can't stop rattling on what's nice about that place.

I am Australian and my Scottish husband hates it so we have to live in Scotland.

I like living there, I think the standard of living is high etc.

On saying that there is not much culture compared to europe, and I love skiing and skiing in Australia is c**p!!

I have lived in Australia (Perth) all my life and would never want to live anywhere else. We have great weather and beaches. Most ppl are friendly and helpful. We have free public health care. Yes it can be boring at times and along way to travel between places but I wouldnt change it for anything.

Hang around Earls Court and meet a lovely Aussie guy.....

or see if you can't get a work visa and meet one here? even if you don't qualify for immigration you might be able to get a 6 month work visa if you have some special skills....especially if you can line up a job from UK...quite a few Oz companies have offices tthere, maybe you could work for them there and get transferred

anyway the country's just been improved by a new government (since November) which has a fairer and more sensible attitude to migration, so it could be worth your while checking into it again.

the whinging Pom thing goes back to the days of the 10 pound ticket, when people came here expecting it to be the same as UK only better jobs/more sunshine, then couldn't adjust to the other differences.  If you love it here we'll love you here and not call you names

What a shame you didn't qualify for a Visa, perhaps you could check up again on that, there might be some way around it.  I agree with most people here that it is a beautiful place, as you know and the only negative thing I can think about it is that it's quite expensive to live there, but it depends on how much money you have.

I have only ever met and worked with horrible Australians and I am very grateful for this because I feel absolutely no desire to visit their country at all.  Maybe I have been unlucky but the ones I have met have been arrogant and self-serving with very little compassion for other people.  I'm not generalising that all Australian's are like this but based on my personal experiences it's the only conclusion I can draw.

I am Australian, and have lived here all my life.

It has it's pro's and con's, as every country does. The negatives? Flies and mosquito's are horrible in the warmer months! The summers can get very warm ( I like this though, but many don't!!),  the public health system isn't real great, and we are currently in a bad drought. However I am happy here, and can't see myself moving any time soon!

Never been and it is probably one of the last places on my list to visit. I much prefer the dramatic history of places like Eastern Europe or India or the excitment of New York City. However I am sure austrialia is probably very nice and I am just ignorant of all it's charms. However if I never get to visit it ever in my life I won't be too bothered.

I have two sisters who live in Perth W.A. They like it there (obviously) but I know that, for at least one of them, the lack of culture really gets her down sometimes.

Yes the weather and landscape is great but I think culturally the ocka aussie male thing can become really tiresome. Men tend to have a tough time if they´re not sporting heroes ("whaddaya mean, ya don´t like footie, you a poofta or summin?") and only in Australia could a leading politican punch a journalist leading to a RISE in respect in opinion polls.

I think also there are still signs of its penal colony origins throughout its culture - there are signs EVERYWHERE telling you want you are not permitted to do. In my visits there I have been

a) bollocked for having my shirt off on a train (it was about 40 degrees)

b) bollocked for having a drink of water on a train (ditto)

c) told to tuck my shirt in in a bar

d) threatened with arrest for drinking in the street

e) threatened with arrest for crossing the road not on a zebra crossing (there wasn´t a car in sight in any direction)

All of this makes me sound like some kind of drunken vagrant. Not the case at all and if you actually think about the little time I´ve spent there it does seem an extraordinarily nanny-state type of hassle.

The bottom line is, I wouldn´t mind being bossed about all the time (and told I´m a stupid pom) if the guy speaking showed any indication at all of ever having read a book/given a moment´s thought to anything except sport and beer.

I love Australia, I've only been once, we down the East Coast (Cairns to Sydney) but am saving up to go again.  I think it would be a great place to live but it all depends on what region as every place has its possitive and negative points.  My advice would be to research into which area you want to live in and have fun!

i have heard from friends that it can be hard to get a decent long term job, they tend to hand them out to each other. immigrants english or otherwise really need to start up their own business to really succeed unless they are going where there are shortages such as nursing. that is the only negative thing i have heard, oh and the crime rate is high in certain areas.
