Does babytalk register with birds?

Question

My husband has 2 cockatiels, I like talking babytalk to them but I do not know if it makes them happy or soothes them. I enjoy picking one up and petting it, but am a bit scared of the other one:)

We did not have much luck with our cockatiel Ringo, but her new companion, Pom Pom, a budgie has started to respond to some baby-talk type words...

Especially since birds need to understand words, they readily respond to tone and emotional content.  Every living creature understands nurturing and non-threatening attitudes.  Baby talk, delivered in a calm caring slow tone will get the message across.
