Does our nation need Hippies again?

In a time when our country is wriggling and our dollar has actually gone below Canada’s do we once again need jobless, drug induced know it alls to rally outside our capitols and picket for change.

In my opinion yes, our country has gotten fat, lazy and to dependant on the “other guy”. We sit around and beach and complain about how bad things are but never do anything to try and change it. I would become a new hippy myself if I could get more people.

Would you become a new hippy too? Is this country headed to revolution and would our citizens do it, or would we all gladly bend over as no solution has been or looks to be in the works for our falling economy, energy crisis’s, and a needless war that tangles in the roots of our country’s woes. Thank you Bush's and the rash ars’s that voted his dad in and the r****d son twice…… ick you people disgust me, but I digress.

Basic question does the country need hippies and would you become one?

  1. I agree that we have turned into a nation of fat, lazy, dependent, ungrateful people who build our lives on credit and then complain when we have to pay it back.  But are hippies and liberalism the answer?  Seems to me that liberalism is what got us here in the first place!

Maybe what we REALLY need to do is to go back to work, hit the gym, quit eating garbage and calling it dinner, read with our kids more instead of watching TV, taking more walks, spending more time with our families, and getting our butts back into church.  (or am I an intolerant neocon for suggesting all this?)

  2. I support an anti-Iraq war position, but prefer to have a job and feed my family.  Just can't imagine hitching around the country and going to different protests, not my style.  I like showering daily and living in a nice home.

  3. yeah we need hippies and im not becoming one because im already one

    - peace out

  4. You bet we do.

I'm growing my hair out now.

  5. Being 'a child of the 60's' I don't have any tangible evidence that growing your hair, taking drugs, sleeping around, believing in some pretty dodgy 'spiritual' ideas and listening to  terrible music made an 'appeth of difference - although it was a lot of fun. If you mean should we have left wing political values, then maybe so. (I'm not sure if you'll count my opinion since I'm British not American!) But whatever we believe the only way to make changes is to act. To do something, whether it's lobbying, creating awareness, using financial pressure - whatever.

I live in a place of outstanding natural beauty with rare and precious wetlands that have taken millions of years to develop. Our government hand in hand with a huge energy company wants to create a barrier that will destroy it in a matter of years. I will fight tooth and nail to prevent this. And if anyone wants to call me a hippy for wanting to protect our environment then fire away!!!

  6. If you mean people who stand up to and protest the governments crimes ? Then yes I am one of them .

  7. No, No and No.

I prefer to wear deodorant- and prefer that those around me do too.

Don't wait for other people- go be a friggin' hippy.  Those Fat, Lazy, Dependent people are typically Democrat.  so talk to your buddies.

As a side note- YOU people disgust ME too.  Let's call it even.

  8. a hippie without the drugs, yes. a group of  people who work together with each other and do not expect payment. where the exchange of goods like food and clothing and other nessesities was important.

its funny i wish we could all rally to the capitals to deal with the high cost of gas. maybe everyone walk together in groups to the capital and leave our cars behind. ior we cram into buses for those who are not well enough to walk. or we could bike or skate to the capital.

  9. Instead of becoming a hippie, why don't you get an education, get a job, make a contribution to society, and quit complaining?  You sound like the same fat, lazy and dependent people that you are bitching about. Ick, you disgust me, but I digress.

  10. We need hippies to stand for our rights.  We already have too many fat, lazy, unemployed kids running around right now doing drugs.  They are NOT hippies.  Hippies made a stand for a better American.

    I would, definately.

  11. Uhm If i remember correctly, Hippies, didn't have jobs, the sat around and smoked dope, invested their day in immoral sexual activities and sucked up the free money that hardworking people paid for in taxes. so where you got the idea the did anything other than obnoxiously voice their opinion, and drag down this country to a socialist regime, I don't know.

Buut I do Have to agree we are get fat,

But statistics show, dollar for dollar Americans work more hours and spend more time at their job than any other middle class nation.

Kennedy put us into Viet-Nam, So thank Him for getting tens of thousands of our people killed, While Bushes war is regrettable he still got a  lot less people killed than, Roosevelt, Truman, and Kennedy.

Then there was Jimmy Carter, you must not remember him if you did, you would remember Gas rationing, 18% Mortgages, and 9% unemployment, and a  bunch of hostages held for YEARS in Iran, Where his Bumbled attempt at a rescue led to crashed Helicopters, and dead service men, ALL over the fact that he sent Copters to the desert that weren't fitted with the proper intake filters.

Yea, I may not like the Bush's but they were still better than Carter and his Alcoholic ambassador brother.
