A child might not understand the difference between 'break' and 'break down'.  We've all had misperceptions when we were young...

  10. no.....lol

  11. Yes, it does.

  12. plastic SOMETIMES breaks. well at least not like glass, but it pops, gets holes, gets cracks, snaps, dents, stretches but if you dropped it off a building it prob wouldnt break, it would prob just dent. try running the plastic over with your car.

but, something like plastic utensils, or a barbie or something would break

  13. Yes my granddaughter broke her  plastic sippy cup.

  14. Some plastic items break more easily than others. Often temperature makes a difference. If certain things are cold, or very cold, they will break more easily because they become brittle.

What happens when something breaks is a separation of the energy that bonds the molecules together. You don't really break the plastic, or glass of a window, or the wood of a pencil, for instance. You break the energy bond. If you want to actually break the atoms that make up the molecules you would need an incredible amount of energy. Like an atom bomb.

If you need to prove to your curious son you can break a plastic item. Try a plastic fork or cd case.
