Does "democrats" get capitalized? ?

Question

Do political parties such as "democrats" and "republicans" get capitalized in writing? Also what about positions such as "vice presidential nominee"? would that get capitalized? How about the word "democratic"?

Republicans and Democrats are capitalized. Vice, only somtimes.

Ex.) I wonder who McCain will make his his vice president. It's lowercase.

But when it's a title....it's capital.

McCain wants to be president, with his trusty Vice President Sarah Palin at his side.

The word democratic alone is not capital.

These days both parties, once elected, get capitalized by deficit spending.

None of them get capitalized, because they aren't proper nouns and they aren't describing proper nouns. For example, Republican John McCain would get capitalized. But, I am not a republican! would not get capitalized.
