My dumbass friend says lightning comes first, but hes retarded tell him that thunder comes first, for reals.

  1. Thunder is the sound of lightning.  You see the lightning first because light travels much faster than sound.  The thunder takes longer to reach you even though the lightning and thunder are from the same thing.

    Thunder is the sound of lightning. The speed of light is much faster than the speed of sound, so it appears the lightning happens first.

    The quicker the thunder is heard from the time of the lightning strike, the closer that lightning strike was to you. When it is right overhead, it is nearly immediate and MAN IS IT LOUD.
