Question:

Does weather really affect peoples moods?

I live in upstate New York so we always experience every type of weather here. When it's cold, rainy, muggy, or snowy people just always seem to be all "meh" but when it's sunny or warm out people always seem to be more outgoing and friendly. What exactly causes this? The obvious answer would be "because it's nicer obviously?" but is there any sort of scientific explanation behind it or is it just that simple?

  1. yes.

  2. Yes there's actually a name for that phenomenon.  My psychologist told me the name of it, but I have forgotten.  I am manic depressive and I have to see a psychologist.

  3. It's referred to as Seasonal Affected Disorder.

  4. Well... which one do you like more.....

    Hot muggy humid days.

Or warm pleasant days when theres a bit of a breeze..

    Probably the second one right.

People are happiest when they are in a pleasant situation.

You will definetl find that people are nice when they are happy right? Well when the weather is nice people are nice because they are happy with their surroundings.

So to answer your question Yes the weather does have a big affect on our attitudes.

  6. I was going to write that I live in western New York, where grey skies are the norm and people are practically delirious when the sun finally peeps out, but I'd be preaching to the choir, wouldn't I?

Seasonal affective disorder is caused by insufficient sunlight. Our bodies seem to need a certain amount of UV radiation for us to feel good.

  7. Yes it does.  It's raining and overcast here and the low barometric pressures cause aches and pains and maketh me crabby today.
