Dog has lump on side?

Question

My friend told me that her dog had a lump on it's side, and they think it might be a tumor. I don't have much info on this and I want to make her feel more comfortable and give him some info on what this could be. So If you have any info, please share it with me.

Her dog is a German Shepard/Lab mix.

I also have a german shepard lab mix. She just turned 10 on January 15th.  She has had and still has lumps on her sides.  The first two we had surgically removed and they were found to be lipids which are fatty tumors that are not harmful.  The 3rd we had aspirated with a needle, which was a very easy procedure that didn't require any anesthesia, it was also a fatty tumor.  I know it can be very scary to find a lump on your dog.  I would advise your friend to take her dog to the vet and see if they can simply aspirate it to be sure and ease her mind.

The term tumor applies to any lump, bump, or growth. It can also include a swelling created by an abscess or similar problem. Tumors fall into two categories: benign and malignant.

Benign tumors are not cancerous. Malignant tumors (also called carcinomas, sarcomas, or lymphomas, depending on the tissue where they originate) are cancers that invade surrounding tissue.

be carefull, some lumps can be cancerious. it happend to a friend of mine dog, she thought it was just a normal lump. when she took her to the vet, they said it could be cancerious, they expanded her life by a year. but she died. It was very sad,  I even cried.

taking her to the vet would be the best thing to do.
