Dolby Digital problems.?

I have no clue whats wrong with my surround sound. My speakers sound perfectly normal on every other setting but when i put it on dolby digital it sounds like static and kinda watery almost. Any idea whats goin on?

  1. How are you hooking the sound up to your receiver? Are you using digital audio cables? That is the only way to transmit surround sound. HDMI, Toslink, or coax. If you do not have one of those from your DVD player there is no surround sound to decode so that could be your problem.
