Question:

Donating blood, relaxation tip?

I would like to start donating blood, but I seem to have a problem with it. When I was in highschool they had a blood drive, and I was perfectly calm and otherwise excited about it, until I saw the needle they were going to use. It was huge, and it was practically a tube .. >< My pulse shot through the roof.. eventually I calmed down, they tried again and again my pulse skyrocketed, and I was sent away. Now I dont even have to see the needle, thinking about it makes me jittery too. However donating blood is a good thing.

Are there some relaxation techniques to help me relax so they can get the needle in?

Ive had blood drawn before, so I know that once the needle goes in I can relax, but its my dang pulse thats acting against my will. >:(

  1. just remember that the needle doesn't hurt... and just look back on how calm the actual experience was.. rather than the freaking out part

if you want to do it... then just do it

you are always going to be in good hands

do what they tell you (ask the foods to eat and whatnot) maybe it will calm you down knowing that you did everything they said so.. everything will be alright

my sister goes in all the time.. but her iron is always low.. so she just got used to be turned down.. its easing her nerves because she wants to do it... and she basically goes in with the "just get it over with" attitude...

    just stop freaking out!!!!!

    =D
