When you are down shifting on a dirt bike can you just keep the clutch held in and shift all the way down to first or neutral or do you have to release the clutch after every gear and pull it back in again? thank you.

  1. You can keep it held in to downshift all the way. Doesnt hurt anything.

  2. depends how fast you are going. if you're going fast then best thing to do is give it no throttle then when your going slow hold in the clutch and shift down to 1st or 2nd gear. if you don't sometimes your bike can stall and you get thrown off the front and hurt yourself.

  3. If say you are cruising on a trail in 3rd or 4th and know you are gonna stop ahead, you can just pull the clutch and cycle the gears all the way down. you have to step for each gear, so if you just put pressure on the gear in fourth it will only go down to third. To go to second you have to step again, which you can do with the clutch pulled in.

If you are downshifting but want to keep moving, for example you have a hairpin ahead or something, you drop down to say 2nd from 4th then you should rev match, let the engine brake and as soon as you get around the corner, smash the accelerator.
