Drew Rosenhaus: Good or Bad?

Alright, I want to hear your opinion. Yet ANOTHER Rosenhaus player is disgruntled, and I'm tired of hearing about players he represents bitching and moaning every other week.

I know this guy's job is to get his players the most for their money, but he takes it way too far, telling them to hold out or even ask for trades. Eventually, he is going to get one of his players just flat removed from the NFL because they are asking for too much money.

My question is:

Would the NFL be better off with out Drew Rosenhaus?

My opinion is yes because I think he stirs up too much controversy.

I will be completely unbiased in my choosing of best answer.

  1. First, it's refreshing to hear that you will be impartial in your award, since most people who ask questions like this just want "Yes" men to agree with them.

As to good ole Drew, it depends who you are.

    - If you're a player and he's your agent, then you probably love him to death.  Show me an instance of any of his past deals falling through.

    - If you're an owner or GM, you gotta hate this guy.  He not only want more money for his clients, but he has them put on these little dramas that distract from the team's training and cohesiveness.  Witness the media circus in NY with Shockey AND Burress at minicamp.  Just horrible.  Hard for players to focus on business at hand when Shockey refuses to go out on the field to join other players, Burress refuses to play though he says he can, and Shockey gets into a shouting match with Reese, the GM.  The drama was instigated by Drew, of course.

    - Fans are split on Drew.  Some say that Drew is doing what he has to do since football is a risky business and the players just want to insure they can take care of their families if they are injured and Drew does it best.  Also, they'll say a player like Burress was a steal when signed from the Steelers and because of his great play in SB run, he should be rewarded.

    - A majority of fans, however, feel that the heavy-handed tactics Rosenhaus uses while a player already has a contract in place is immoral and a bad example to their kids.  They see their ticket prices escalate and the cap increase to accomodate these demands.  They see the demoralizing dramas he creates non-stop in the media.  Definitely takes away from the fun of the game.

    - The NFL actually considered an "anti-Rosenhaus" rule.  Google this online.  It's pretty interesting what happened to it.  Perhaps something like this will be raised again, because he has just gone totally out of control with the staged histrionics and demands of his clients this off-season.

Personally, I say there are limits and there are limits.  And Drew went over them all some time ago.

  2. You have to understand that Drew Rosenhaus holds the cards, because he has all the top players in the league. In recent years, players have fired their agent that they've had for some time now and purposely sought his services with the intention of getting paid.

If you're a player that just wants to play, then it would probably be smart if you don't hire him as an agent because, it'll be a big media circus.
