Driveway/Retaining wall?

Question

Are we doing it in the correct order if we put the retaining wall up first and then have the driveway done? I had to dig up my yard several feet for the wall and the existing driveway is very old/cracked and dipped so will need to be dug out and replaced. Also, does anyone have any suggestions on how to make sure the wall (which extends about 42 feet) is perpendicular to the house... this question is more complex than it appears

If the retaining wall is close to the driveway, I would do that first then have the driveway done. A laser level would be the most accurate way of ensuring the retaining wall is perpendicular to the house. You can also get a surveyor out and they can take measurements and stake out the area and attach a line so you have a good guide. I would check out a tool rental place first since that will be the cheapest option. They will also be able to answer your questions about what the capabilities are of the laser tool is and if it is appropriate for your application.

I probably would have excavated the entire area at the same time. Yes the wall goes up first then the driveway. A sturdy peg at both ends of the  42' with construction line can help keep you project level and in plum.
