Ive taken 10 driving lessons so far, and I asked my instructor how many I might need before considering going for the practical test. He says I will need aleast 20 more lessons, and that it takes about a year to take them all and be fully prepared for driving. I was shocked as I thought I would only need about 16 lessons, as I am taking to it very quickly. How many lessons did you have before passing? Im not allowed with the car we drive too because my grandfather would get too nervous incase I crashed and killed his no claims bonus. So I dont know what to do, because if I do take another 20 lessons thats a month of my wages away.

  1. i think that guy is milking you for money. it seems too much. you can actually make an appointment to take your driving test anytime if you have a car to use. only thing is, without the compleated drivers course certificate your insurance rates might be higher.

  2. Go to an empty car park and practice there for free. I'm sure if you told your grandfather your that it would save you heaps of money he WILL eventually warm to the idea.

  3. Our drivers tests are different here in South Africa but what we usually do is take 4 or 5 lessons to cover the basics, then drive with a family member until we feel comfortable with driving. Then about 2 weeks before the test we take another 5 lessons to cover all the technical stuff.

  4. i started taking my lessons last week had my 4th yesterday before even getting in the car the instructor told me it will take up to a year or 45 lessons ! which i am told is wrong because people are different and learn differently. Most the people i know have done it in 14-20 lessons but you can put in for it at anytime when u feel ready x
