this is the set up i have at the moment.

i have a panasonic dvd 5.1 surround connected by scart to a 46inch lcd tv. A blu ray player is also connected to the panasonic via optical cable and it plays all blu rays dvd in 5.1 dolby digital. I purchased fantastic 4 on blu ray and it supports dts hd. My panasonic says dts surround on the front of the machine but when i play the blu ray dvd i get no sound through the surround at all only picture. The sound works fine through the tv ok. Im not sure but i have changed the settings on the panasonic to dts bitstream as per manual but still no sound.

im i right in saying that as the panasonic states dts surround that the audio should decode the sound through my speaks when using a blu ray fim in dts hd sound only as its attached via optical as the 5.1 dolby digital works fine so why does the dts not working.

Sorry for the long question but i wanted to be as clear as possible.. Hope some one can HELP!!!!

  1. The reason why you are getting no sound is because the DTS HD Master audio is a newer surround sound format that uses lossless audio compression as opposed to the normal DTS surround which uses a lossy audio compression. You might need to connect the 6 channel analog audio cable connection if that connection is possible on your blu-ray player and your panasonic receiver. Normally you will see multi-channel 5.1 output on the back of the player with the labels Frong L R, Surround L R, Center and Sub and the same on the receiver except it will be called multi-channel input.

This type of connection will decode the DTS HD surround in the player...optical sends the raw signal to be decoded on the receiver which can't be done unless your receiver has the DTS HD logo on it.
