Dual gigabit ethernet setup

I have a 790i ultra SLI motherboard, so it has two ports but im wondering what else i need to set up the internet on gigabit ethernet

I have basic broadband at the moment. like 4megabit download spedd or something and a 802.11g router i believe

  1. Your gigabit ethernet port is much quicker than either your broadband or your router - it has nothing to do with SLi, that's to do with your graphics capabilities.

    Ethernet data transfer is dictated by the slowest device in the system, so the only time you'll see any benefit is if you connect two computers together via a crossover cable or gigabit hub & transfer data between the two.


  2. Plug it in..

    Like the other answerer said, your Broadband is about 250 times slower than a Gigabit card, and the link will only run as fast as the slowest part.. in your case, the broadband.. There's not much you can do to speed up the broadband, but if you get a gigabit switch, and connect to another computer with a gigabit card, it would be very fast..
